Day In The Life

from Poet At Heart D Sides by MilkDrop

/

about

I wrote this song in 2010 when I was working a graveyard shift at the job I had. I can't remember exactly, but knowing myself I wrote this after beng awake for an extended period of time following one of my many nights punching the proverbial clock. This song means a lot to me for a couple reasons. At the time I was working that particular job a lot in my life was changing or set to change, very much for the better but with a few looming previous struggles lumped into my plight. Adding to the experience and emotions that went along with that time period a great childhood friend who had passed away the summer before was buried in a cemetary across the street, so every morning I would look across and feel inspiration for my day no matter what I knew I was set to face.

lyrics

Off work while most of you are still asleep,
Feeling weak back hurting need that healing sleep,
This is my night time ironic because because the sun is on the rise,
Walk outside and feel a new vibe wild because the sun is on my eyes,
Another long night at work another dollar earned,
A little blue because I know that all this work has my collar burned,
Light a cigarette let my system get right w/ the air,
Know I’m living well so I’m rushing home the drive is a scarse,
5 minutes run just around the pavement’s proof,
But this morning I’m feeling anxious so I make it in 2,
Hoping as I open the door there’s no mistaking the view,
My wife and son beautiful in their rest I smile at the look,
And right before they wake up I put some rhymes in the book,
All the lines I thought up while working the graveyard plight,
So happy to have arrived it’s just another in the life….

It’s just another day in the life (life),
Just another day in the light (light),
Just another day into night (night),
Just another day in the life (life)….

No time to lose so I brew her coffee in the pot,
Turn on the news just to catch how the lottery is locked,
Think for a second what I could do w/ a line of the image,
Sitting on millions funny knowing I’ll never buy me a ticket,
Knowing the day is long so I’m aligned w/ the time that is given,
And w/ God as my guide it’s my grind that’s submissive,
I’ve been patiently absorbing now every morning I save my grasp,
For that pen I can use to retrace the past,
Kiss her goodbye and maybe take a nap,
Though I rarely sleep w/ a mind framed w/ facts,
Grab a quick meal something to hold me before I hit the streets,
Errands to run bills to pay new deals to reach,
Running loose in the fields because my dues are steep,
And though they show up I know there’s those that assume defeat,
I’m left staggering though I rise when containing my plight,
Reliving each moment of clarity changed to apply,
To me it’s just another day in the life….

It’s just another day in the life (life),
Just another day in the light (light),
Just another day into night (night),
Just another day in the life (life)….
